So, as I’m writing this, it’s 1:37 pm on Monday, September 26th, 2022. I’m recovering from my exciting weekend in NYC. I had the amazing opportunity to be invited to attend the Global Citizen NYC 2022 Festival held at Central Park this past Saturday. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. Over 60,000 people gathered in the name of humanity – supporting amazing causes and raising awareness to make a positive impact on our planet.
Inspiring, moving, uniting, kind, progressive, and powerful are just a few of the words I can list to describe how I felt being there. I feel that all of those words fit within the word love. For me, music is the expression of love, and it’s the language we all have in common. We understand music because it speaks to our souls in a way that words just can’t. In Central Park on Saturday, it was incredible to see so many people from all walks of life gathering together with music as the connecting factor in the name of something bigger than ourselves. I came home from that event with a renewed sense of faith. It was a reminder to hold onto the vision of where we can go instead of where we have been. It was a reminder that Divine solutions do exist, and together with a common heart of purpose – we can bring those Divine solutions to life.
Something about the concert series had me revisiting a song I wrote with the incredibly talented “Blessing Offer” titled “Love Never Fails.” The sea of people that stood behind me as we all looked up at that stage gave me goosebumps, thinking that maybe one day an artist would be standing up on stage singing the lyrics that I wrote, with echoes of the whole audience singing along. Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech has always inspired me, especially amidst the 2020 pandemic and the “Black Lives Matter” movement. I was pregnant at the time, so I couldn’t physically participate…. but I longed to do something to help. I wanted to volumize what I feel passionate about, which is my belief in the power of love to do all things good.
“Love Never Fails” came as an answer to a prayer I had been praying. I was asking my Higher Power how I could help, and the song came to me as a reminder to hold onto a higher ideal, a higher vision of what “could be” instead of feeling discouraged at “what-is.” With the help and perspective of my friend/amazing artist, Blessing Offer, we finished the song, and I feel very proud of it. I’m excited to see where that song’s ultimate “home” will be. For now, I just sing it because it’s soothing and fills me with hope. One day I envision a choir coming out on stage, singing behind a powerful artist who is signing my song “Love Never Fails” to an audience full of people singing together in total unity. Ahh, that thought gives me chills… it’s almost like it’s real right now. Anyway, the song hasn’t been recorded yet, so if you want to take a listen – here is a link to me singing it live.
The lyrics are posted below. If you like it, please share it -as well as sharing in the higher vision of “what could be” for all of humanity and for yourself. Let’s hold onto the DREAM!
Thank you so much -Alexa
Love Never Fails
Written By: Alexa Shea Falk-Johns, Blessing Offer
I lay wide awake,
There’s so many problems,
Years covered in hate,
Oh, how can we solve them?,
We’re red, or we’re blue
We’re black, or we’re white,
We’ve colored the news
We’re all wrong being right,
Taking a knee, they’re rejected -now riots,
That started in peace, they turned them to violence,
Oh, how can this be, we’re all human beings,
Where is compassion, where’s equality?,
I heard of a dream &,
I believe it’s still alive,
Freedom, it will ring in,
The darkness will turn into light,
Cuz love never fails,
Love is kind,
Love is patient, all-knowing,
It’s grace for all, showing us,
Love is blind,
Yet Love sees us all,
Love is truth, Love is our reason,
It’s the strength that is keeping us,
Love is in me and in you…
And Love never, never fails
They say it takes time,
Change isn’t easy,
But how many lives will it take until we see,
And listen to the cries, witness the lies,
Long is the road, but so short is the time,
I heard of a dream &
I believe it’s still alive
Freedom it will ring in,
Cuz love never fails,
Love is kind,
Love is patient, all-knowing,
It’s grace for all, showing us,
Love is blind,
Yet Love sees us all,
Love is truth, Love is our reason,
It’s the strength that is keeping us,
Love is in me and in you…
And Love never, never fails,
I heard of a dream &,
I believe it’s still alive,
Freedom it will ring in,
Ring for (us) all, all the time
